Formed in the Spring of 1998, the eleven member group, Queen City Funk & Soul of Cumberland, Maryland has been performing to large audiences since launching it's Groove Manifesto Summer Tour at the Heritage Days Festival in June of 1998 on the Downtown Cumberland Mall. The group features an outstanding line-up of local and regional musicians, presenting a high energy package of dance and party music with strong vocals and exciting instrumental soloists. The group's repertoire includes music from many soul artists of the 60s and 70s including James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, Earth, Wind and Fire, Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan. Queen City Funk and Soul members include Fred Sullivan-vocals, Michelle "Mitch" Walters-vocals, Autumn Smith-vocals, Tom Harrison-keyboards and arrangements, Jim Roderick-guitar and arrangements, Steve Everett-bass, Chip Buck-drums, Adam Mason-percussion, Fred Kesner-lead trumpet and chief horn arranger and Tom Simpson-trumpet. Several different saxophonists have been featured with the group including Curtis Johnson, professor of applied saxophone at West Virginia University and Rich Norwood of Elkins WV. Several members of the band hold degrees in music and are in demand as arrangers, composers and performers for a wide variety of musical services in the tri-state area. This outstanding group has performed to capacity crowds at the Honi Honi Bar in Deep Creek Lake, MD, the "Futures" Professional Golf Tournament in Morgantown, WV, Rocky Gap State Park in Western MD, the Holiday Inn in downtown Cumberland and has presented several outdoor concerts for crowds of well over one thousand people at Constitution Park in Cumberland, MD. QCFS released it's first CD "We've Got It Covered" on July 4, 2000 recorded Live at the Crown Ballroom in Cumberland, MD. Queen City Funk & Soul is a great party and dance band featuring music from the great horn bands of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Packaged with dynamite vocals, QCFS is sure to make your event a success.
